File Upload Failed

If you get an error when trying to upload a file — whether it's a document, photo, or attachment — here are the most common causes and how to fix them.

Common Causes

CauseSolution
File too largeReduce the file size (see below)
Unsupported formatConvert to a supported format
Network interruptionCheck your internet connection and try again
Browser issueTry a different browser or clear your cache
Session expiredLog out and log back in, then retry

File Size Limits

Large files may fail to upload or time out. To reduce file size:

For images (JPG, PNG)

  • Use an image compression tool (many free options online)
  • Reduce the image dimensions if it's larger than needed
  • Save as JPG instead of PNG for photos (JPG is smaller for photographs)

For PDFs

  • Use a PDF compression tool to reduce the file size
  • If scanning documents, scan at 150-200 DPI instead of 300+ DPI
  • Remove unnecessary pages

For other files

  • Compress the file using a ZIP archive
  • Split large spreadsheets into smaller files

Supported File Formats

Common supported formats include:

TypeFormats
DocumentsPDF, DOC, DOCX
SpreadsheetsXLS, XLSX, CSV
ImagesJPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF
OtherTXT
note

Executable files (.exe, .bat, .sh) and script files are not supported for security reasons.

Steps to Fix

1. Check the file

Before retrying:

  • Verify the file opens correctly on your computer
  • Check the file size (keep under 10 MB for best results)
  • Make sure the file format is supported

2. Try again

Click the upload button and select the file again. Temporary network issues often resolve on their own.

3. Try a different browser

If the upload keeps failing in one browser, try a different one. See Browser Compatibility for supported browsers.

4. Check your internet connection

Uploads require a stable internet connection. If you are on a slow or intermittent connection:

  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router
  • Try switching from Wi-Fi to a wired connection
  • Wait for your connection to stabilize before retrying

5. Clear your browser cache

Old cached data can sometimes interfere with uploads:

  1. Clear your browser cache and cookies for app.propty.io
  2. Refresh the page
  3. Try the upload again

Still Not Working?

If you have tried all the steps above:

  • Residents: Contact your property manager and ask them to upload the file on your behalf, or send it via email
  • Property managers: Try uploading from a different device. If the issue persists across devices and browsers, there may be a temporary system issue — wait a few minutes and try again
